Apply for $50k Towards Your Short + A Big Announcement

Happy Friday, Dear Listener!

If you are in LA, I hope you safely weathered the stunning rainstorm earlier this week. Experts say we saw the annual average of rainfall in mere days. If only the city was built to handle it...We are back to sunshine which only increases my excitement for our latest episode with Coco Francini which drops on Tuesday.

We are also jazzed for our first event in LA on 2/27 (have you RSVP'ed?!) annnndd... [drumroll] the big announcement is that we are officially launching our Patreon!!!

AOP is a pure labor of love; one that I feel honored to have spearheaded for almost 100 episodes. Many of you have bought me coffee to help support the show over the last year. I am so so grateful!

As we enter the 5th year of the podcast, however, I need your help to make growing the show possible and sustainable. The podcast isn't going anywhere and will remain free, but the funds will go towards helping with the backend  so I can focus on the front end with offerings such as:

  • Weekend workshops with  me (and special guests!)

  • Bonus episode content

  • Early access to future events

  • Invites to networking opportunities

So, whether you've been with me since the show was called Life with Caca or have just discovered AOP, I hope you'll consider supporting us via Patreon. Keep your eyes peeled for more deets in the upcoming weeks. As always, thanks for listening, for being a part of my journey, and for doing this life thing with me!

Earlier this week, I sat down with the incredible Coco Francini, who is an Emmy-nominated producer and a partner at Dirty Films, alongside Cate Blanchett and Andrew Upton. She's extremely impressive and has also spearheaded the very important, timely, and desperately needed, PROOF OF CONCEPT Accelerator alongside Netflix and the Annenberg Inclusion Initiative.

It's designed to accelerate the path to large-scale filmmaking for directors who give voice to the perspectives of women, trans and non-binary people. The program will provide support for up to 8 filmmakers to make a short film that that is “proof of concept” for a feature film or television project.

Short films will be funded at $50,000 and directors will participate in a mentorship and exposure program which connects them with industry leaders. Her episode drops on Tuesday and we dig into the details of the program. The deadline is 2/16, so go get it!

PRODUCERS CORNER

Signs of a Good Producer [Link] I appreciate the red and green flags of a producer, but caution that when you are starting out and working with an indie producer who does not have development money, it's not unusual for both parties to work on spec. Be discerning. Ask Question. Trust your instincts!
