Alana Mayo - Head of Production & Development at Michael B. Jordan's Company
On authenticity, self worth, and how she differs from fiancé Lena Waithe.
“Producing is not a job you do for glory or awards, but it's so deeply rewarding.” - Alana Mayo
Alana Mayo is a name you should know. She’s kind. She’s real. She's head of production & development at Michael B. Jordan’s production company, Outlier Society.
Born in NY and raised in Chicago, Alana's journey began as an intern for Lee Daniels. She eventually made the jump to LA, where she worked with Warner Bros. based producer Andrew Lazar on the development and production of films such as GET SMART and I LOVE YOU PHILIP MORRIS. A hard worker, she quickly climbed the Hollywood ranks and became VP of Production at Paramount Pictures, where she worked on films such as:
A QUIET PLACE
ANNIHILATION
FENCES
THE BIG SHORT
SELMA
She's been a part of bringing some of the best films of recent years to life. Our chat was juicy because, despite her young age, she’s got rare insight to share into the life of both a studio executive and a producer. Part 1 of 2 tackles being authentic on social media, not deriving your self worth from your professional identity, and how she differs from her fiancé, Lena Waithe.
Can't wait to hear what gems you take away!
