"IT" Producer Barbara Muschietti

On working with her brother, soft money, and how we both jumped the fence into Hollywood.

Part 1 of 2

“There are probably 3 days a year when I feel like…OK, I think I’m accomplished.”

-Barbara Muschietti

Happy Tuesday, everyone!Got a very special episode coming your way this week with Barbara Muschietti as IT, CHAPTER 2 floats into theaters this Friday, Sept 6th. What can I say about this fierce Argentinian woman?

She’s the producer of some terrifying, groundbreaking, record smashing horror films I’d never thought I’d watch, much less enjoy. And now I find myself exhilarated and excited to watch the sequel. Barbara produced the box office hit “IT,” an adaptation of the Stephen King Novel.

The film scored the biggest opening weekend ever in more than 30 markets, crossing the $700 million milestone and making it the highest grossing horror film of all time.

Prior to IT, Barbara produced/co-wrote the feature film MAMA, based on the short film of the same name. The film starred Jessica Chastain and had Guillermo del Toro as the executive producer. It was one of the top earners of 2013.

What’s unique and special about Barbara is that she has worked with her brother, writer/director Andy Muschietti, for over two decades. They have collaborated on all of their projects, across film, TV, and commercials.

They owned a commercial/TV production company in Spain called Toma 78, where she produced hundreds of commercials for clients like Coca Cola, Mercedes, Pepsico, Ford, and the California Lottery. She personifies hard work and what it means to bet on yourself.

I loved every second of our chat, especially when we gush over our mutual love for Coco Kleppinger and Rich Delia, the casting directors of the IT movie. During part 1 of 2, we discuss the importance of being ambitious about oneself, understanding ‘soft money’, and how we both jumped the fence into Hollywood.

Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on this week’s episode!
