Giulia Caruso on the Beauty and Hardships of Indie Films

Plus, working with your significant other, and how motherhood fuels her.

“Being a producer has been...willing to go home after a long day on set and make hard boiled eggs for the crew for the next morning." -Giulia Caruso

Happy Tuesday, everyone!

This week, I sat down with Giulia Caruso, independent film producer and founding member of Nonetheless Productions.

Born in Milan, she discovered her love for filmmaking at an early age and eventually found herself at CalArts earning her MFA in directing. It was through directing and assistant directing, however, that she discovered her passion for producing.

Since then, she’s been churning out indie hits such as MYRNA THE MONSTER, SPA NIGHT, and COLUMBUS

In 2018, she was nominated for the 2018 Piaget Producers Award along with her producing partner Ki Jin Kim

Giulia and I dig in to what i’s like to have 3 different movies premiere at Sundance 3 years in a row. No easy feat, but timing is everything.

Speaking of…editing this week's episode made me reflect on my own LA journey as yesterday marked 13 years since I set foot in the land of dreams. Despite how bumpy the ride has sometimes felt, I’m proud to say I’m still on the rollercoaster and have only barfed a few times!

During out chat, we tackle the beauty and hardships of independent movies, why producers should value themselves, what it’s like to work with your significant other, and how being a mother fuels her passion as a producer.

Listen on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, and YouTube.

Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on this week’s episode!
